C3 Summer Biomedical Informatics Institute
Bioinformatics is revolutionizing the way we look at science and medicine. To be competitive medical or graduate school applicants and job candidates, the next generation of scientists and engineers will benefit from collaborative, interdisciplinary training in computational biology. Genome sequencing is becoming faster and cheaper every day—what does this mean for personalized medicine? Computational models can predict complex protein structures and interactions—how can this aid in disease treatment and drug development? Health informatics is designed to streamline health care—how is it being implemented and what can still be improved?
The goal of the Summer Biomedical Informatics Institute (SBII) is to provide junior/senior undergraduates with a strong introduction to bioinformatics and computational biology and provide examples of how these tools are being applied in research laboratories. This intensive workshop combines classroom lectures, computer lab sessions, and tours of research facilities at MU.
